Before we begin any work, we’ll spend quality time with you to properly develop a customized plan that best delivers all your unique hardwood removal needs.
For example, if you’re planning on keeping your wood after its removal for donation or simply to reuse it, we’ll ensure that the hardwood is kept intact throughout that process. Otherwise, a different approach for hardwood removal could be used.
We’ll make sure that the space is well prepared for this process, too. Hardwood removal can be a messy job with lots of debris flying everywhere, but not with us! We’ll make sure to eliminate that possibility by removing all furniture and protecting any remaining equipment from flying dust and debris.
Afterward, our team of experts will analyze the hardwood floor to determine which method of removal is best. Depending on how the hardwood was installed, the tools and techniques used could vary. Removing hardwood that was glued down is different from a floating one.
Glued-down floors are attached to either concrete or plywood subfloor using an adhesive while floating wood floors have planks attached but not to the subfloor underneath them. Sometimes, glued-down floors are also nailed to the subfloor beneath them, so it's crucial to precisely know how the hardwood floor was installed to preserve the subfloor.
Another factor that we take into account is the type of hardwood that was initially installed. Some types, such as foam-backed parquet, are easier to remove than others, while hardwood with several kerf cuts on the back would take some extra work.
After evaluating all these factors, we’ll prepare the right tools and methods to carry out a hardwood removal task that’s as smooth as possible.
When to Get Your Hardwood Floor Removed
Hardwood floors add a certain timeless beauty to any room that they’re in, but there comes the point where removing them is the best option. So, how do you know it’s time to take that step?
The most common reason to get your hardwood floor removed is damage. Water damage and excess moisture are one of the main reasons for the harm associated with floors, potentially causing some problems such as peeling, warping, or buckling.
Depending on their severity, your floors may not need to be removed right away. Sometimes, a good sanding job (which we also offer) is enough to bring your hardwood back to life. Unfortunately, there’s such a thing as “over-sanding”, where the planks are sanded down too much until they’re too thin and in need of replacement.
But not all reasons are superficial. A hardwood floor that’s creaky or not properly leveled can be a total nuisance. Of course, we’ll be with you step by step throughout your reparation process, so rest assured that we’ll take the best possible measurements.
